A discussion about why Heavy tanks remain such a problem in COH2 but not DOW2

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 05:31 PM PDT

Heavy Tanks (or Daemons) are the endgame units for both Relic games, of where they tend to be effective against every unit, and weak to massed anti-tank.

Back in the days of where DOW2's community was more active, there weren't many people that talked about these heavies (Land Raider Crusader, Deff Rolla, Avatar of Khaine, Great Unclean One, Swarmlord, Baneblade), as much as the COH2 heavies (Tiger 1 and 2, Pershing, Crocodile, IS2). Why is this so?

Personally in my opinion, DOW2 heavies are non-doctrinal. Not that they have individual commanders, but they have three champions you can select that reflects the doctrinal nature of your playstyle. E.g. if you get a techmarine, you have more options to play defensive, and if you pick force commander, you have more options to play offensive. Nonetheless, no matter which champion you pick, you still have an endgame heavy.

One problem with COH2 heavies is that they are doctrinal (except the king tiger), and that many more ostheer doctrines contain the Heavy (Tiger 1) than any other faction, giving them more strategic flexibility and still get a better lategame unit.

Furthermore, DOW2's resources are either requisition points and power instead of COH2's manpower, fuel and munitions. What that means is that the vast majority of units require power, and that not getting these units and upgrades put you at the back end. Therefore, saving up for a heavy is much harder for DOW2. On the other hand, only vehicles require that secondary resource - fuel, and there are options to not use tanks and still not lag behind. Therefore, it is entirely possible to not get vehicles until you save for a heavy tank.

Lastly, DOW2 heavies won't usually kill your squads in one hit. When your units are in combat, you still can retreat, regroup and get some anti-tank. Those units would usually take hp damage for a short while before dying. On the other hand, if a tiger wipes out some models, you'd have to spend manpower to replenish them.

    C&C welcome.

Vet Bonuses for AT Guns. I think 6pdr values were added in to the base's 25pdr howitzers.

    Defensive strategies for USF COH2?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 03:02 AM PDT

Who doesn't know USF are great at pushing through. But sometimes, we really to to set up a defence around a point. What strategies do you guys recommend? Also suggest for 3v3 and 4v4 team battles

    First or Second game?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 08:57 AM PDT

I've had the first company of heroes for a while now and whilst searching through steam for some good lockdown games I saw the master bundle for company of heroes 2. Is there much difference between the two games that would make it worth buying?

[1v1, VP] Does anyone else just hate playing against OKW?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 11:53 PM PDT

So I'm a USF main, and I can't stand playing against OKW. I don't know jack shit about the game so I'm just gonna state observations I've made and if I'm wrong then you can blame my own two eyes for deceiving me.

They have better infantry, beating my riflemen and rangers with 1 squad standing out of cover. They have tanks way sooner than the US has an answer for them. The AA halftrack comes out about the same time if not sooner than a Pz 2, but the Pz 2 easily defeats a half track in a duel. Riflemen with zooks aren't an option, because all of your fuel needs to be pumped towards getting your tanks out sooner than them and you can't afford the weapon rack upgrade. An AT gun suffices against a Pz 2, making short work of it, but it's a major risk to invest in an anti tank weapon when he might shift gears and dominate you with infantry. And then once they get their bigger tanks out, your AT guns might as well be PEZ dispensers.

Every strategy I hear is "Pressure them so they don't get tanks out" but that's not really feasible when they start with stronger units and better scouting capabilities. Rear echelon units might as well be geese with pistols strapped to their heads. The fact that the US has to make a choice between anti infantry and anti tank without having any good units to scout with is terrible against the OKW. Pick anti infantry and you hold him off until the Pz 2 shows up, pick anti vehicle and now you're a sitting duck praying that he stops hammering you with infantry. The US has to play their heart out at a constant disadvantage while the OKW player just meanders along the tech tree without a care in the world. "Oh cool, now I get my tanks, guess I win." Plan on using a jackson? Good luck saving up that much manpower and fuel, because you're constantly be spending it on reinforcements to keep your few resource points owned. Want to use zooks? Good luck getting the munitions, since you're gonna be constantly spending them on abilities you need to keep your units out of the grave.

It feels like a constant uphill battle while the OKW gets to sit comfortably atop their armored throne and swathes of superior infantry. It doesn't matter if they have terrible spacing, or they're constantly floating resources, or they are careless with their tanks, because any holes in their skill are patched up by the same armor plating they put on the Panther. I could see a perfectly mismanaged army, call in a coordinated strike on it, see huge numbers of soldiers go down, and then move in just to have 2 squads of vet 2 riflemen die to 6 different 1 man squads. See 2 Panthers getting ballsy and decide to punish them with a pair of AT guns hidden behind them, firing AP rounds? Good hits, one of them is now at half health after 4 shots and the other player finally noticed. They both fire 1 shot and both of your AT guns are dead. Good job. And then the real kick in the balls is when you lose and check the graphs, just to see that your opponent didn't spend a single resource for close to 10 minutes despite massive infantry losses and still somehow beat you. Playing against them is a hell I never want to be part of, but apparently there isn't a single Ostheer main in existence.
