    How to play online COH1

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 02:14 PM PDT

Hello COH1 community. I am a long time fan of COH1. However I stopped playing when COH2 came out and then was very disappointed with it and stopped playing game ever since. Now I am trying to get back into COH1. I can't seem to log online and am asked to enter my relic account to access multiplayer. I read some other forums that there is a steam only version that bypasses this but I've looked and I cant find this "COH steam version" Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

The case for a Soviet Industry buff

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 05:15 AM PDT

So, Soviet Industry. A doctrine with a pretty unique history that settled down to become an average doctrine with 3 good abilities (KV-2, KV-8, Repair Stations), 1 okay ability (expensive fuel drop that is always negated if the enemy has any AA at all) and 1 complete dud (vehicle repair). The old Soviet Industry is gone for good, and for good reason too. However, the new version is in direct competition with IS-2 (one excellent and the other very good), ISU-152 (both excellent) doctrines, and last of all, Urban Defense, an excellent doctrine that also features KV-2 as well as Shock Troops.

Repair Stations were nerfed (they used to cost munitions only), fuel was replaced with the airdrop from lend lease we have now, and the end result is a doctrine that's not the worst in Soviets by any means, but not the best either. It's almost always outshined by Urban Defense if not the others though, and I think it's a good time to throw this doctrine a bone and make it more interesting without adding in something big like IS-2. The direction I would take it would be something like the Elite Armored Doctrine of OKW where KV-2 is the analogue to Sturmtiger.

    Here, then, are my suggestions:

Replace Vehicle Repair Crews with a buildable Valentine Tank. The Valentine would be built at the T3 building, and would be to T70 what Puma is to Luchs. This particular Valentine would have very poor performance against infantry, and no MG on top of that so not even Puma's power, but in turn, it would have excellent penetration and fire rate for its cost. It would be a slower, beefier Puma with low damage per shot, but would be decent against medium tanks and even heavy tanks to a degree.

The purpose of such a unit is to have a versatile tank hunter, a light Panther if I may say, and to give the Soviets a nimble little tank killer. Such a unit would be unique in the Soviet roster and therefore unique to this doctrine, and it could be used to punish early Ostwinds or even PzIVs in pairs or when supported by a ZiS.

It would not have large sight range ability like the UKF Valentine, but it would simply have slightly better vision like a Puma. It wouldn't be able to coordinate a Katyusha barrage like the UKF Valentine can do for Sextons, but the Veteran ability would be the HEAT shots from Elite Armored baked in, allowing this tank to punch even more above its weight while giving the doctrine another munitions sink after repair stations.

I believe that such a unit is in tune with the swarm tactics suggested by Industry's design, and it would be a nice complement to a KV-2 that needs to be protected against flanking attacks and also needs spotting support.

I think that's it. I also thought about suggesting something to tweak the fuel ability, but I think this Valentine would be a large enough addition and further changes would have unforeseen consequences. The addition of such a tank would, I expect, make this doctrine among the top Soviet doctrines, and hopefully not better than that.

Original is better in my opinion but more people play the 2nd. Why is this?

Used to watch his commentary on game casts religiously when they came out, then he disappeared and I never saw him again. Any idea? Really miss him :(
