- I just wanna say that I found my most favorite OKW commander! Breakthrough! every time I use this commander I get fantastic games and it scales ⚖ wonderfully from early to late game.

The Hilariously Fun Clusterfuck of Company of Heroes: Online Posted: 18 Sep 2020 07:13 PM PDT Some of you might have heard about Company of Heroes: Online, that attempt made by THQ to cash in the juicy Asian markets on the crest of the MMO craze. These days, it is barely anything more than a blip on the radar of Company of Heroes history. A few words might pop up about it, like "unbalanced", "OP", "noobs"... But, unbalanced as it was... it was still a whole lot of fun. I should know. I was there back in 2011, to the last minute: I was playing a 1v1 match on Carpiquet when all the servers closed and that game was lost forever. So let me tell you a little about Company of Heroes: Online and what made it so hilariously fun... In essence, it was a combination of factors. The game was geared mostly for the big games, 3v3 and 4v4. Being permanently free at a time when Company of Heroes I had to be purchased in order to play, it attracted a lot of newcomers totally strange to the franchise. That the game was looked down upon by the old breed of CoH I players helped cement that. So, in a sense, Company of Heroes: Online was a brave new world. Take the chaos of current 3v3 and 4v4 in CoH II and kick it up a notch or two. Want some practical examples? How about Pioneers that had a free Panzerschreck from minute 0, deployable from the HQ? That's right, ladies and gentlemen, no more pesky Amerikaner light vehicles to bother you! What if you are cheap and don't want to waste any Fuel in researching Grenades or Sticky Bombs? No worries, Company of Heroes: Online has you covered! Now a unit that is as hard to kill as a Ranger squad, allows you to bypass teching! Fantastic! "Wow", u/vrichardsen, "that sounds pretty OP". You ain't seen nothing yet, son. You want invisible Pioneers? You got it. You want Company of Heroes II Panther, all complete with "Blitzkrieg!"? Coming right up. Feel like 150 Munitions is too much for MG 42 and Panzerschreck for your Grenadiers? You get them for free instead. You think your Engineers are wimps? Let us upgrade them with Garands, BARs, grenades and elite armor. And then you had more ridiculous stuff, like
And I haven't even touched on the OP commander abilities, like instawipe Registered Artillery, Pillaging or Aftershock Rocket Batteries, or the hilarious meta involving the Assault Jeep. I hope this was an entertaining read, and gave some of you a bit of understanding of what made Company of Heroes: Online so unbalanced... but at the same time, so gloriously, unapologetically fun. OKW Cannot Compete with Allies Posted: 18 Sep 2020 09:27 AM PDT Early game OKW is unable to compete with the British and Soviet forces, provided that the player has a minimum of 1 brain cell. Both Soviet sand UK have access to light armored vehicles (clown car and UC), not to mention superior infantry to Volks. Bringing out a vehicle forces OKW to use the Raketenwerfer, which, while useful, has a tendency to miss and get easily wiped. At this point, OKW has less AI capabilities than the Allied players, whose infantry are already better to begin with. Compounding this problem is that the AT does not guarantee a kill against the M3 or UC, since the Raketen requires 2 hits to kill and has a high chance to miss, and the Allied player has plenty of time to retreat his vehicle anyways. Snares are not available until tier 1, and they are not very effective against fast vehicles anyways. These vehicles allow the Allies to bleed OKW of manpower at little risk, and can outright deny points. When it comes to infantry fights against the British, OKW is always at a disadvantage in a 1:1 fight. British troops can easily drop volks, and British field more mainline infantry quicker because they start with one. The nerf to the sturmpioneers had made them squishier, and more prone to dying, so flanking with them or ambushing is not as effective as it used to be. If the sturm has to close any amount of distance, it simply won't make it, and even in close range it performs much more poorly. It also has a high reinforce cost, which is also detrimental to OKW early game. Additionally, OKW has no effective counter to HMGs until tier 1. Flanking the HMG is not viable if its protected by infantry, because British Infantry and Soviet penals are superior to volks. Fire grenades are useful, but only if you can get close, and using one delays upgrades later on anyways. When it comes to light vehicles, OKW can dominate in AT with the Puma, but this does not solve the infantry question, as OKW infantry will still be vastly inferior. If OKW goes for the Panzer II, it is very easily countered by a T70 or AEC. Even if Allies go for an AT light vehicle, they still have their superior infantry to work as their AI. By this point, if OKW has not already been pushed off the map, they will likely be out of fuel and unable to compete with Allied tanks.
