    CoH2 Tank Combat.

I've been curious. Does distance between and enemy tank and your tank effect penetration? And does angling the armor of your tank effect it at all?

    Is Base Building Obsolete?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 05:55 AM PST

Base building has been a hallmark of RTS games and it has its place in the genre. But I can't help but wonder if base building still matters in a tactical game like CoH.

I mean, already we see the new Western factions kinda do away with base building. The USF and UKF just research officers/tech to unlock new units.

The OKW does have a unique take on building strutures on the entire map. Far more interesting than OstHeer and Soviets just base building on the HQ zone. Mostly because there's some risk reward to deploying buildings near or far away from the frontlines. Putting a Medic building near a fuel point is gonna be hard to dislodge. But if the Allies do manage to destroy the building...

In any case, it seems to me that base building in the CoH series, maybe apart from OKW, seems out of place and doesn't add anything to the gameplay.

It seems like a carry over from classic RTS games rather than coming up with something that makes more sense for the series. World in Conflict, WarGame, and Steel Division don't have buildings but instead deployment zones for units to arrive onto the battlefield.

In World in Conflict, units are paradropped into a friendly, non-combat zone so enemies can't spawn kill (in most cases they'd be busy capping or holding the Victory Points). In Wargame and Steel Division you have sectors/routes that lets you call in soldiers off map down a road. If you lose map control to those routes, your units have to arrive from a different route.

For CoH(3?), I don't think the Wargame, SD approach would work since the maps in CoH are much smaller. But having a non-combat deployment zone that the enemies can't enter or attack like in World in Conflict would probably make more sense.

You'd just call in units, focus on map control, and never have to think about buildings again.

Lots of disconnecting to relic servers lately

Anyone else experiencing this? Playing a good game and all of a sudden disconnected "defeat". Is someone exloiting this on the opposing team when losing? Seen it many times in AoE in the good days.

New to USF, how to deal with Axis heavies and combined arms?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 02:57 AM PST

I am not here to complain about balance.

Hi, I am an OKW main and familiar with the faction. I wanted to try USF and I think I understand the basics, I usually do very well in the early and mid game, but have issues dealing with the inevitable lategame composition of tiger/King tiger/tiger ace/elephant/jagdtiger plus panzer 4, AT guns, MGs, and vet axis infantry.

I do not know how to play at this point, what ends up happening alot is I make some mistake like diving too deep and losing my own tanks, then get pushed by the axis infantry and I am forced to retreat and cannot figure out how to get past the MGs, AT guns and tanks. I also find my tanks keep bouncing shots and lose to axis armor. I do try to kite with M10s and Jackson but AT guns and shrecks/fausts makes it very difficult to get any killing blows. In 2 v 2, it is worse, I find it impossible to do anything when there is a jagdtiger or elephant on the field.

My preferred commander is armor company for the M10 + 105 sherman, I also have some success with riflemen field defenses.

I would appreciate some advice on what I should be doing.
