    CoH Master League Reminder!

    Posted: 15 Aug 2020 10:43 PM PDT

Hey everyone, GBPirate here! I know A_E already posted here about the next ML tournament, Commander Terminator, but I just wanted to follow up!

***Today's super important because sign ups close TODAY. So if you haven't signed up, do so right now here! Checked-in players that aren't ranked high enough in their automatch rankings will be eligible to play in the next Wild Card tournament for a seed in October's tournament, so if your rank isn't as good as you think it could be or if you want to shoot your shot sign up!!!***

Here's what you need to know:

    • The tournament is a commander elimination event, where each player can only use a commander once in the entire event, mixing up the meta from the top players and giving them a bit of a disadvantage in the early rounds.
    • Maps are a mix from automatch and trusted community members, all of them carefully selected, tested, and edited to the utmost degree
    • Games are played on a special "tournament mode" that reduces the most non-competitive RNG, such as "vehicle abandon" and "main gun destroyed" criticals
    • The tournament will be broadcast live on Twitch on the official Master League Twitch channel and other partners like Tightrope, Greyshot, etc.
    • The tournament will begin on August 22 at 14:00 BST (13:00 UTC)
    • Sign-ups close on August 16th — sign up today!

The first event back in June, Man lebt nur Zweimal was a smashing, 32-player double elimination success. That was followed up a couple weeks ago with a wild card event where nearly two dozen players competed for better seeds in the next tournament, scheduled to start next week! The Commander Terminator, the second CoH Master League event, is going to be another great, double weekend event and you won't want to miss it.

What is the CoH ML? Read the quick summary below:

The Company of Heroes Master League is a community-driven project that showcases CoH's competitive scene. It features tournaments every two months and is broadcast live on Twitch. The prize pool is funded by members of the community chipping in small dollar amounts every month via the crowdfunding site Patreon. By becoming a Patron, anyone can have the chance to vote on a variety of things that affect future tournaments and events via the exclusive Discord server that brings together fans, players, and the organizers. In addition to the regular tournaments, the Master League is also a living history of Company of Heroes. Detailed statistics of past tournaments are documented — even from the early CoH 1 days — and results from the twenty most recent ML events are used to seed players in upcoming ML tournaments. This is to ensure that the Master League stays as competitive as possible while providing an archive of past achievements. The best part about this is that the data is free to access and available to the public!

NEW: Relic just announced that the Master League's intricate & well-measured ranking system will be used in the second iteration of the Company of Heroes 2 World Championship 2020, coming in November. Read the announcement here.

What's up with AI crewed team weapons throwing grenades/using fausts?

    Posted: 16 Aug 2020 04:32 PM PDT

Had an MG42 crew faust my tank, a pak-40 crew throwing a bundle grenade and a mortar crew throwing a damn grenade. Would be funny if my weapon crew can do that as well though.

    Guide for returning players

    Posted: 16 Aug 2020 08:48 PM PDT

    Hi guys,

I recently have wanted to get back into COH2. I haven't played much for a couple years or so but I used to be pretty good. I'm a bit nervous of getting my ass beat when I come back due to the lack thereof of rank decay. I remember a couple years ago when I came back the first time I got matched against some top 100 player my first game back and it turned me off from coming back. I have no idea what the meta is and whats units are good right now.

When I played a bunch previously I remember the AA halftrack being really good for the Soviets and conscripts as well. Though now I hear that penals are pretty good? Anyways could someone give me a run down of whats good for each of the Factions at the moment? I mostly play 1v1 if that matters.

    Guards Armored Breakthrough Tactics

    0 CP: M4C Sherman.

Even if mostly the 75mm version, was heavily used by Guards armored divisions and so I feel it fits here. With an upgradable pintle MG, smoke mortars

    2 CP: Guards Rifle Infantry

2 CP: Mechanized Infantry Training (Represented by Radio Intercept) Guards, Penals and Conscripts gain the Mechanized Training Passive Ability, which gives them +0.15 Armor and -30% Suppression when in the proximity of friendly vehicles. Conscripts can be upgraded with x4 PPShes for 70 munitions but cannot pick any weapons up.

7 CP: Vehicle Crew Repairs Vehicle Crews can perform self-repairs.

13 CP: Guards IS-2 Heavy Tank An IS-2 crewed by an elite crew that has earned the Guards designation. This tank is more expensive than a regular IS-2 and requires you to build all 4 tech buildings, but it comes at Vet 1 like the Tiger Ace, is sturdier than a regular IS-2, fires marginally faster and has some extra abilities like smoke dischargers. Vet 2 unlocks a world-piercing AP shot, similar to that on Pershing. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/228588489392783371/723324629992865852/Guards_Armored_Breakthrough_Tactics.png

I think its time for a Fallschirmjager nerf.

Every time I see them being used, no matter if its 1v1 or 4v4, they get spammed. I'm talking like 3-5 squads. Honestly, if they weren't spam-able it would't be such a big deal, but they just melt squads like they're nothing.

In my opinion, they need to be bumped back to 400 manpower or lose their camo. If they are gonna be spammed, let them cost more to deter it, or prevent them from hiding like so you can counter them.

Dealing with Axis Armor as Soviets

    Posted: 16 Aug 2020 02:16 PM PDT

I'm struggling to fight Axis armor as the Soviets, mainly Panthers/Tigers. My T-34s seem to bounce consistently, even if I manage to flank it. Conscripts barely seem to damage it with AT grenades, and Penal squads are never able to get close enough for satchels. I've only found moderate sucess with SU-85s, but they are often only able to repel it, as it quickly reverses. Any tips?

Can anyone give some advice and/or a guide on playing as the US?

    Posted: 16 Aug 2020 01:07 AM PDT

Thinking of giving them a try again (mainly a UKF player), but I'm curious as to how the faction works. What are their strengths and weaknesses? Do they have any tactics/strategies unique to them that could be helpful? And anything else that would be interesting to know?
