Want to get better at this game, and the team game modes seem super fun with friends, but I haven't met anyone yet who was interested in partying. Is there an LFG discord or something where I can find people to play with?

About Balance Transparency, let's do something about it.

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 01:50 PM PDT

This will be kind of a serious post. I'll post a meme tomorrow but for now, it's business time.

This post is mainly a response to two concerns.

1: Concerns from the community about transparency within the balance team. 2: Concerns from the Balance team regarding bad faith criticisms and generally bad ideas.

As far as we know, COH2 is coming to its last balancing cycle. It is unlikely there will be many more patches in the future and there won't be any real support after perhaps a year or two. Therefore it is crucial that the last patches be of the highest quality to ensure the sustainability of COH2 as a game.

There was a post by the infamous Baoling regarding the balance team a while ago and while he was correct in wanting transparency his methods are incorrect. We need to be building bridges not burning them. There's no reason to antagonize people this late into the cycle. That being said I still agree with some not all of the criticisms.

So let me get into the heart of the post.

I'm sure the Balance Team already has a server which they use for discussion. For transparency's sake, it's very easy to create a congressional floor effect within the discord where the Balance Team members to hold discussions within a sector of the discord where no one else would have any power to interact with. There are a lot of role powers that can limit the typical user's powers and there are certainly role-specific chat and text channels available through discord. There will also be a subsector within the discord where the typical user will have limited chat log powers to discuss findings and ideas based on the Balance Team's discussions or with the Balance Team themselves away from the main discussion. Therefore, the peacefulness of the balance discussions is protected where no one else has permission to type in but everyone can see it. In said discord, it is much easier to detail out community roadmaps and to explain the actual scope of the changes because it grants a better platform than the few lines of texts allowed on the relic patch notes. In order to create this sort of civil discussion environment, great care must be taken to limit trolling and bad faith trolling. There are a lot of logistical problems I'll cover later but for now, take this idea more as an opportunity for the community to spectate the debate happening. Even though not many people would end up probably partaking in this experiment, it will provide the transparency some of the most vocal critics cry about.

The balance team also has a lot of concerns regarding the mass amounts of voices they need to filter in order to get to the truly solid balance ideas with evidence-based backing. Reading through Reddit, steam forums, and the Coh2.org forum, it is clear that listening to everyone's ideas isn't helpful. There's a lot of voices out there that have wild, imaginative, and sometimes delusional theories of how the game is played or what the game should play like. There's no guarantee that every idea will be good however using example bad faith criticism to justify shying away from addressing from good-faith criticism is not a good way to do things. I'm not saying the Balance Team is guilty of such behavior I just see a lot of game developers do this. Therefore the question lies in how do we conduct criticism the right way? This question is really difficult because there's so many factors to consider here. However, I've decided that there should really be one qualifying factor in order to get a trusted role ( see footnote) in the server: the person's ability to make and take constructive criticism. The definition of constructive criticism is a process of offering valid and well-reason opinions about the work of others. What constitutes valid and well reasoned? Well, in this case in my opinion valid could probably mean something in the realms of understanding the 1v1 structure including build orders/timing/resource limits and etc. Well-reasoned on the other hand just means being able to back claims with substantiated data. My reasoning for not including qualifications of rank in this is because sometimes low-rank players make good points about game state and sometimes high-rank players make terrible points about game state. Their rank doesn't have anything to do with the argument they are making but instead can modify their viewpoints and inherent bias. A good argument/observation is good regardless of who presents them! And of course vis versa, bad arguments/observations are bad no matter who makes them and should be subject to criticism. If you can't be constructive in the server, you'll just have to use the slowdown chat instead of the trusted chat.

(Dis is footnote) The Trusted role is basically building a rapport of trusted players to explore the full extent of the game and having those voices be closer to the balance team and having them filter out the thousands of none constructive voices

Potential problems in this plan: I want to address this very seriously because I care about the sanity of everyone involved and the validity of the plan.

1: Harassment of Balance Team members. Solution: Good moderation team and somehow circumvent people pinging all the time.

2: Scarcity of people joining Solution: not really a solution to this but it will shutup anyone who complains about balance but are not willing to put in the effort to contribute to the actual discussion.

3: Hostility surrounding balance proposals from community Solution: introducing people to the chill pill and meditation. (Yeah I don't actually know how to solve this)

4: becoming a meme server like yanderedev's Solution: idk man at leat it'll be popular?

5-10: [You decide] Poke some holes in this plan and let me know?

Now for the logistics: This project will take

One server, finding around 3-4 mods or so, chat channel organization, advertising, role organization, and a minor server constitution. So all in all-around 7-10 hours of slow work in total.

I'm not only offering this as an idea and hoping someone else will actually do the work. I'm offering to put this plan into action and actually build this environment to facilitate an increase in interactions between the balance team member and the community. Approach me through discord or something if you want to make this happen. I'm always in the Coh2.org discord mirage and repo knows me.

When did the Commonwealth get medics?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 10:16 PM PDT

Just started playing again, and I've noticed that the British Forces have access to new Medic and Officer units. Is this a new thing? And, if so, what's the best way to use them?

Also, side note, while I've got you here, how am I supposed to deal with Brummbärs without tanks of my own? The hard and extreme AI (personally prefer to play against AI) are able to spam armor before I get my first Tank when playing as Britain, and I can at least partially deal with them by keeping several AT guns around, but it seems like the Brummbär will just one-shot the crew before they have a chance to fire.

Do you have to have a minesweeper to reveal a demo charge? I thought I read somewhere if they are on a capture point they are more easily detected?

Any tips how to play panzer elite doctrine for okw?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 04:36 AM PDT

I just got this one in supply drop. I do not know how to play it and all videos I have seen on youtube revolt around using armored car as supply boost and sturmtiger as blob destroyer, while the other abilities are rarely used. If someone mastered this commander, pls share your tips and tricks. Thanks in advance.
