    Do allied mortars pay for themselves?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2021 08:27 PM PST

    Often when playing as Soviets I know that trying to conscript rush is a risk since Ostheer and sometimes OKW will rush MGs.

    To counter this, the idea is that if a bottleneck exists, you can use mortars to drop smoke and swarm the MGs. When 2 or 3 MGs appear, this becomes difficult as they are often spaced strategiclly or reposition in the smoke to resume firing. While it's possible that you may take back the point. How do you counter the counter of Axis mortars themselves?

    If it's a VP/ Fuel point I get it that smoke right outside of the circle while under your MG cover will keep enemies from contesting it.

    Also, Intel Bulletins can help win the mortar war, but Ostheer mortars have the "counter barrage" which targets your mortar team with incredible accuracy.

    All and all, is there ever a point where allied mortars can pay for themselves if they keep getting counter barraged? What's the counter to their Mortars? Vehicle artillery? In a bottleneck tanks would likely get snared & killed before they do any significantly damage. Dissolving the game into a bloody Stalemate for 1 point. The tag team of the GrW 34 Mortar & MG 42 is really rough in the early game and I don't know how to beat it. I'm not going to rely on Zis-guns since having to constantly use it quickly bleeds dry my munitions.

    CoH2 is too hard to learn

    Posted: 07 Feb 2021 02:20 PM PST

    Okay, I'm noob for strategy games but I played Warcraft 3, Age of Empires, Starcraft, Command & Conquer etc. This game is killing me. I finished mission 5 and it was really painful. I don't know what to do, how to do, how to micro, how to do anything useful. They just die even on easy difficulty. I can't even think of a strategy because I can't understand basics. Training mission was useless. There are no tutorials except bunch of texts - not to mention that English is not my native language.

    Is this game really hard compared to other RTS games or am I just too dumb?

    COH2: Why is performance so horrible as the game progress?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2021 12:59 PM PST

    Hey me and my friend are playing together online and both experience heavy fps loss as the game progress. My friend went from 86 fps to 23 fps after 20 min, myself from 70fps to 14 fps.

    We both have pc with spec well above the recomended for this game. We tried lowering settings from max to medium and noticed higher fps overall but similar drops to around 40 and 30 fps.

    Is the game really this horribly optimized? does anyone know of any ways to mitigate the horrible performance?

    I noticed that a 64bit update was recently released, is the game 64bit as standard now or do we have to opt into the beta branch?

    My friends pc specs:

    CPU: Intel i7-6700k

    RAM: 32gb ram DDR 4

    GPU: GTX 1080 ti 8gb

    My pc specs:

    CPU: intel i5-9300H

    RAM: 16gb DDR4

    GPU: GTX 1660 TI 6gb

    Any way to watch my old replays?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2021 02:51 PM PST

    Every hotfix wipes all the replays from the ingame menu. The files still exist in my documents folder, is there any way to view them anymore or is that gg

    Transport idea for OKW

    Posted: 07 Feb 2021 03:55 AM PST

    Right now, OKW is lacking a true dedicated all-around transport for units unlike all other factions, who have either a 1 or 2 man transport (or both in some cases) as part of their regular lineup. OKW can only get a transport with one specific doctrine that, while useful, isn't always the best to pick. On larger 4v4 maps, this often means that OKW has to walk all the way to the front if they don't have a forward retreat point set up.

    To counteract this problem, I was thinking of ways OKW could get a transport that wouldn't make them too powerful early game due to them rushing their rather strong infantry around. Currently, I have 3 ideas in mind:
    1. A Kubelwagen can transport a 5-man squad max at Vet 4 with a toggle. The squad cannot fire, and is vulnerable to fire due to the limited protection the Kubel gives. The MG of the Kubel is disabled. Speed is also severely limited.
    2. An Sd.Kfz. 251 is available at the Schwerer Panzerheadquarters without Panzer Authorisation. This would be the same 251 as Ostheer, but instead of the flamethrower upgrade it could become the "Vampire" halftrack from CoH1, being able to siphon resources from the enemy towards yourself. Upgrade costs 150 munitions.
    3. An Sd.Kfz. 10 can be build from Mechanised HQ for 180 MP and 25 fuel. It has no offensive weapons and features a tarp cover to protect the infantry inside from harm. It can either transport 2 4-man squads or one 5 to 6-man squad. The squads can't fire from inside the vehicle.

    Any additions, concerns or ideas?

    JLI (Jeager) worst infantry in the game?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2021 10:20 AM PST

    JLI (Jeager Light Infantry).

    • 4 man squad that deals little damage, takes damage quickly (!);
    • Requires perfect micro to prevent insta-wipe;
    • 4-man squad not preservable... better retreat after the first model dies or it can be all over in a hurry, I mean LOL wtf honestly what the hell?
    • Can't deal damage; Can't take damage; Doesn't kill quickly; Master of nothing, not even an all-rounder;

    Zero fucks given regarding scavenge ability. Whoopty-freaking-do. Engineers are cheaper & arguably more versatile at doing this in battle contested areas of the front. How about JLI's supposed "recon" ability. Panzerfusiliers are equal-to or better at recon AND superior in EVERY OTHER WAY. JLI are trash!
