    [guide] Managed to play full multiplayer game on linux with proton

    So to make the game run and not go out of sync in MP I found this guide which is for aoe2 DE and ran with proton 5.0-10 basically the issue is some dll which you need to replace for game to work properly. Steps - open terminal and type:

    cd /home/$USER/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/231430/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32/

    wget "https://aka.ms/vs/16/release/vc_redist.x64.exe"

    cabextract vc_redist.x64.exe

    cabextract a10

    Hopefully we can play from now on

    Festung Armor Doctrine

    • 2 CP Panzer Tactician: All armored vehicles use their equipped smoke dischargers to prevent themselves from being seen.

    • 5 CP Hull Down: Pioneers, Grenadiers and Panzer Grenadiers are able to set German armor in an immobile Hull Down position, increasing defenses and damage.

    • 8 CP Pak 43 Emplacement: Pioneers and Sturmpioneers are able to construct powerful Pak 43 88mm anti-tank emplacements. CommandTree Succession Arrow

    • 9 CP Command Tank: A Panzer IV Command Tank that improves nearby forces can be deployed to the battlefield.

    • 12 CP* Railway Artillery Support: Off-map railway will fire three large caliber shells at the designated target.

    Fortified Armor Doctrine

    • 2 CP Panzer Tactician: All armored vehicles use their equipped smoke dischargers to prevent themselves from being seen.

    • 4 CP Stuka Reconnaissance Overflight Available aircraft will make a reconnaissance loiter on the targeted location to reveal enemy forces.

    • 5 CP Hull Down: Pioneers, Grenadiers and Panzer Grenadiers are able to set German armor in an immobile Hull Down position, increasing defenses and damage.

    • 9 CP Command Tank: A Panzer IV Command Tank that improves nearby forces can be deployed to the battlefield.

    • 14 CP Allows the requisition of the Elefant Tank Destroyer to the battlefield.

    Fortified Armor and Festung Armor look like rather decent doctrines overall (mostly for team games), sharing 3/5 of their doctrinal components. Fortified has the heavy TD with the advantage of being able to scout for it aerially (though the spotting scope in jaeger armour is my preference for sure), while Festung gets the late game off map. Panzer tactician is indispensable and PIV Command tank gets good value when called in later. But I think the viability of picking them hinges on the usefulness of Hull Down. I was hoping to have a discussion about how best to use it. The stats of the buff are I believe +25% main gun range and -25% damage taken. So the range buff would have the greatest flat effect for vehicles that already have good range like the Panther.

    Cannot launch COH2

    Hi

    Recently I came across this issue and I cannot find a solution to it. When I open Steam and I click "play" nothing happens. I tried launching it with "open with administrator privileges" and a notification pops out that tells me that VCRUNTIME140_1.dll is missing and reinstalling may solve the problem. I've tried reinstalling COH2, I've tried deleting all files in COH2 main folder and launching it again and I have tried reinstalling and repairing Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2019 (I've read that reinstalling it may solve the issue). Nothing worked.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    EDIT: Solved - I've tried installing both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2019 and it worked. Earlier I have tried installing only 64 bit version installed.

    Any tips for someone who wants to play OKW?

    I personally love playing 4 v 4 just because those huge battles are my thing.

    Since the title itself explains already what am i asking for, i am gonna put some things in here now how i play so far and some questions inbetween.

    My favorite doctrin so far is the Overseer, with the jaeger light infantry and the goliaths. I would say said jaegers are also my favorite unit. It's pretty fun having some of these camping on a booby trapped point and wipe out the squads who want to take the point.

    I personally love the vehicles from the Mechanized HQ

    I personally feel like the Flak-Halftrack and the Puma are pretty solid units. Squishy so basically a glass canon, but i made rather good experience using one or two puma's to take down single tanks. As soon as the Puma is vet 1 and has this stun shot i think they become a pretty evil monster in 1 vs 1's against medium tanks. And with two of them you can more or less stun-lock the enemy. Meanwhile the Flak is making a massacre out of enemy infantry. And in the meantime with the Stuka i can fire on structures or MG's, mortars or other supportive fire from the enemy. Tho the stuka is having a little range problem in my opinion which makes it hard firing back on a enemy katjuscha, calliope or artillery canon without having to drive through enemy AT.

    After that vehicle talk... Does it even make sense to build them in the later states of the game since they are so squishy? Because just from their fire power i would say they are a viable option but require quite some solid management and attention.

    I think one of my biggest issues is to actually push the enemy back since i usually quickly get stopped by a mix of enemy MG's and AT guns. And since the iG18 from OKW at least to me doesn't really seem to be that good at firing on enemy stationaries i don't know how to get into those protected spots. And leFH's or Stuka's have a rather long reload time. AT guns would shoot down my tanks and the MG's supress my inf. Any suggestions here?

    Also i could use some advices maybe how to properly use the goliaths. I use them every now and then but usually with rather less success since alredy the auto fire of mortar squads can rather easy take them out before I reach those. Should i maybe also use them as a trap on capture points?

    At the end... I can only refer again to the title of this post, asking if there are things i should know or do as OKW player.

    Iv'e been playing as the wermacht for about 2 hours now and i cant find where to build normal infantry. I mean normal infantry as those groups of 6 who have rifles or sub machine guns. I cant find the option to build these guys so i would be happy if someone could tell me how to do it.

    Does public even offer team play?

    I love COH2, i have over 600 hours and i consider myself intermediate player. But i had recent game at Hamburg port. We were 4 soviets vs 3 wehr and 1 okw. I managed to secure the middle and north VP but as usual axis mg spam made me retreat, so did my "teammate". After this first "lost" engagement, the guy just moved to battle south with the rest of the team (3 soviets player) leaving me fighting over pretty much half of the map completely alone. So it was 1 vs 2 north (me) and 3 vs 2 south. The guys didn't make any significant progress, despite having " manpower superiority". I asked for help, that i need someone help me or at least hold the middle to prevent enemy flanking me. No response. I pinged, nothing. I was bleeding MP and i left, when they just stormed my base with flamehalftracks. Guys didn't care, they were still fighting over that one point over and over again, without trying to cut their lines or flank them. Just stupid sending hordes of inf to die.

    Why is there RNG in an RTS?

    Why does COH2 have RNG when it does not belong in an RTS, Lets use StarCraft2 as a comparison,

    RNG elements in SC2

    NONE

    RNG elements in COH2

    inconsistent Infantry damage output, inconsistent yet high damage/lethal indirect fire, grenade damage, Vehicle crits, projectiles accuracy (e.g AT guns and tank shots missing at minimum range), unpredictable vehicle pathing.......and countless others

    So how does RNG affect the game?

    Winning an RTS game ultimately comes down to winning the numerous engagements that occurs throughout the game as a result of better decision making and execution, where there should be a 100% correlation between a good decision + execution = better trade/winning an engagement. Well unfortunately this is not the case for COH2 thanks to the excessive implementation of RNG, adding RNG as a variable essentially skews the probability of winning an engagement against the better player in many ways, firstly, adding RNG impedes the players ability to make decisions, Obers vs Shocks charging at them, who wins? well unfortunately you simply cant say for sure, assuming all variables remain the same, cover, vets etc.. if you repeat the engagement multiple times, you will find drastically different outcomes, sometimes the 3 shocks model die before they reach Obers, some times you will find not a single model has dropped. This variability means the player can't make decisions simply based on game knowledge, because the game it self doesn't even know who wins! its a flip of a coin, upscaling this to bigger battles with more RNG variables, it becomes worse.

    Putting competitiveness aside, how much does RNG add to the fun? How fun was it when your Jacksons missed 3 shots in a row? When a mortar shot hits your squad dead on the face despite you repositioning them, when your 3 ATs bounced all their shots on a snared Tiger.

    There is no place for RNG in a RTS!

    So my mates and I just recently switched to CoH2 from CoH:EF and we're still working our way to beating 3 Expert AIs 3v3.

    Then I came across this mod which on paper looks and sounds extremely exciting.

    Considering that we just switched from a simpler UI (coh 1), will we be overwhelmed playing with this mod? What are your thoughts on it in general?
