    CoH3: Please have this featured

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 01:20 PM PDT

I got myself the pre-alpha here's what I wish to have in Company of Heroes 3:

    Customizable Hotkeys

It's mandatory for an RTS in 2021 to have custom hotkeys. While the grid layout is perfect, there are plenty other functions, such as the tactical map, that need customizable hotkeys.

    Full Modding Support (Custom Models)

CoH2 was already very generous with its mod support. There were so many awesome mods with gorgeous splasharts for the new units they were introducing, however, they were lacking the respective custom models. It would be so great if modders could have the ability to replace unit models with custom ones, or perhaps even add entire new units instead of replacing them.

    Multiplayer Quality of Life Improvements

Multiplayer felt like a gimmick in CoH2. It was neither missing, nor fleshed out. There were many inconveniences that made multiplayer unenjoyable at times. Here are some suggestions that may be improvements:

    • Dedicated multiplayer tab: Things like profiles, skill level and match histories should viewable in fullscreen size in a dedicated window/tab. It should feel like a completed part of the game, not like a side-addition
    • Clans tab: Self-explainatory. Clans or clubs would be a great addition for both competitive players and newbies alike. Sharing experiences and making new ones together bond the community. Ingame features, like clan matches, would be a great thing.
    • Integrated report system/muting: Reporting and/or muting a player should be only one mouseclick away.
    • Ability to reconnect: To counter our old enemy... the bugsplat. Also convenient for connection losses.
    • Improved replay system: Being able to navigate the timeline of a match easier would make making content, may it be highlights or cinematics, more accessable.
    • Countdown at the start of the match: In CoH2, the smoothness of the transition between loading screen and match varied from player to player, meaning that some players loaded earlier into the game than others. A countdown of like 10 or 15 secs at the beginning of a match would not only diminish technical difficulties, but would also give the players the ability to set up and communicate a game plan with the mates, or to queue unit orders. Everyone would have the same starting conditions.

I know it's pretty early, but these are just my suggestions.

The dynamic war map is probably one of the best things they could have added.

I've always wanted a Total War style game with Company of Heroes mechanics, looks like they finally did it.

My CoH3 presentation: insight from testing, feature analysis, trailer breakdown, and Q&A!

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 12:35 PM PDT

Been playing the Pre-Alpha and it feels more like COH1 than anything. The buildings and models look great. The UI changes are gonna take a LONG time to get used to, love/hate them.

If shotgun wielding units are revealed to be a part of COH 3, I will purchase one commenter a copy of the game on Steam when it comes out, purely out of jubilation.

    COH3 Pre-Alpha Feedback Discussion

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 01:53 PM PDT

I'm just curious how people are feeling about the game so far.

I like that it is having some throwbacks to COH1 while improving mechanics from COH2. It was really nice to hear the COH1 voicelines as (hopefully) placeholders for the COH3 US faction.

I have not been able to play much yet, but I will say the mouse camera delay is really frustrating. I hope that does change.

What do you all think so far?

TTK seems to be very fast

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 05:03 PM PDT

After playing for the better half of the day i seem to feel that the TTK is definitely a lot faster. I like this but at the same time feel this could become another DoW3. Say what you want about Dawn of war 3 and your buzzword moba arguments. One of the biggest downfalls for DoW 3 was trying to push itself as a e-sport and create urgency of quick thinking/reflexes to be rewarded much more than the slower relic games. *ptsd from assault marines intensifies*

The unit veteran upgrades coupled along with the faster TTK and abilities seems almost overwhelming as i found myself wiping units quickly as they appeared. While enjoyable i could not imagine being on the other side of this. I don't think anything should be changed til we get a multiplayer release and more fleshed out Axis factions but i was curious to what everyone else thought about the current TTK?

Thoughts About the Defined CoH1 Focus

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 10:13 AM PDT

In their information about CoH3, they specifically point out CoH1 as a design influence and focus. I find this interesting and wonder how much influence they're going to take away from that.

Although I get theres a subset of the community that loves CoH1 over 2, but I do hope they continue to iterate on 2's developments and not reinvent the wheel for base elements of gameplay. I honestly would play 2 over 1 any day of the week, but I get it, opinions are opinions. I understand CoH2's got its share of problems, but if I'm playing a CoH game its 2. I just hope they bring the successful stuff of 1 with the iterative developments they had with 2's lifespan. Just want some thoughts on this, some more viewpoints. I hope this isnt nostalgia bait or rose tinted knee jerk stuff, and hope instead that this is a 'best of both worlds' scenario for CoH3.

Edit: appears I didn't see the IGN preview with more info on this, and that it's more of a design direction in terms of match pacing and escalation. I'm good with this as I assume this will play out as prolonging the 'early and mid game' states before it evolves into the late game slugfest, making armor more valuable and a larger focus on combined arms TM. I just found it odd that the described this with CoH1 and not just saying focus on pacing or whatever. I suppose just saying CoH1 is more digestible and understandable.

So an Italy setting but no Italian faction?

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 04:46 PM PDT

I know the Italians didn't have enough equipment in WWII to actually be worth much but this is a video game. When I first saw the trailer It made it seem like there was at least going to be a free Italy/partisan faction.

I'm still excited but I was hyped to play as the Italians. Bersagliere scout squad, cheap as hell tankettes, and lend-leased German/allied equipment, the frogmen. Hell, I just wanted Italian models and voice lines.

Please... please don't pull a DoW3 on this one. I need my RTS fix!

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 02:58 PM PDT

Seriously I really hope this is just the same as COH2 (With improvements obviously) and they don't fucking kill the franchise like they did when they made dawn of war 3 a MOBA and then gaslighted players saying it was still an rts...

How much you want to bet the Free Poles will be featured?

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 12:55 PM PDT

I was watching the IGN live stream and the devs talked about the large variety of nationalities being involved in the Italian campaign as one of the main reasons they went with this theatre of war.

The Poles have to be included as a detachment for the British!
