Company of Heroes 3 should go Early War

Hear me out. The mainstay of company of heroes (both 1 and 2) has been the late war. COH1 started off at DDAY to the late war. CoH2 starts off early war on the eastern front, but quickly progresses towards the late war.

Both games multiplayer modes revolve around the Late war period of World War Two. This is due to the fact of all the cool late war tanks and weapons that both sides were throwing in to combat their enemies.

But what if we started in 1940-43? France was still a significant factor (both before and after the Nazi invasion) Italy was still a formidable foe, especially in North Africa

How about a campaign revolving around North Africa?

We would see smaller factions, new early war tanks and units, all set in the wildly varying geography of North Africa.

Of course, the European theatre, as well as the eastern front, could still very much be considered for "operations" like in company of heroes 2.

I think by pivoting to the early war scene, we'd see a lot more significant battles, as by the 1940-43 timeframe, the war was still largely up in the air as to who would win.

    Thoughts?

    Any hope for new players??!?!?

What in the actual fuck is this matchmaking?!? 3 of us (500 hours gametime together combined) started playing 4v4 vs players and we get people who have 7000h and 3000h. I realize there is no players playing this game anymore but what the actual fuck is that matchmaking?!?? The gaming experience is literal dogshit playing against players who played this game for years now and calling you noobs and shit. It was fun in the start but if this continues easy deinstall.

Edit: Sorry for cursing I just got out of a game and i am tilted.

For all new players: Drop Etiquette

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 06:38 PM PST

When you have a full team of 3 or 4, and someone on your team drops at the start, the rest of your team should follow suit and drop and get a new game. Please don't make the enemy team sit through the slog that is playing against computers. Most players, myself included, would rather cut my foot off than play against another bot. We've played this game for years and If someone on our team drops, we will drop as well. It's standard CoH2 etiquette and we really appreciate it. For any new player that doesn't understand this, feel free to ask me and I will give the breakdown of why playing against the computer is just a waste of time. Thank you

    Idea for COH3

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 07:35 AM PST

So I was thinking about pathfinders and how they are a reconnaissance squad. That got me thinking that every faction having recon as their starting unit instead of engineers would be interesting. For this we are going to refer to the stages of building up your tech as battle phases.

    Phase 1: Recon

Recon units(scouts, Jeeps) would be available alongside engineers from the HQ. Engineers would be nerfed in combat to be more of a builder unit with recon squads taking over the early game capping. Engineers would also receive more abilities like more defense/snare options or support structures they can build.

    Phase 2: Initial combat

Core infantry and light support units(Mortars, Mgs, snipers) would become available(through building their production building).

    Phase 3: Support phase

Support units(AT, AA, Light vehicles, artillery) would become available. Similar to the current game some factions would have you choose which to build first or skip entirely.

    Phase 4: Final phase

Tanks and heavy armor would become available and players would have access to their full tech tree.

The only real change to the game is to the early game with the addition of recon squads as the early capping and combat squad and the focus of engineers as a builder unit instead of a frontline infantry unit.

Aside from that I think it would be interesting to take away the commander locked units and instead let players pick from a roster what units they want to bring in. They would be allowed a certain number of units to choose per phase. Commanders would instead have abilities only.

    One deadly fragmentation bomb run

I wish we could ctl+drag (or something) to select all units that don't have a "reverse" command so that we can retreat easier

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 01:39 PM PST

I can't tell you how many times I've dragged to select a bunch of units and gone to hit retreat, only to get screwed because I selected some tank and now I'm stuck on the reverse command.

Then I get arty dropped on me and it's over before it even began :( Would be an awesome quality of life update.
