It's ironic how the germans and Soviets in this game have playstyles that are the opposite of their doctrines in real life

    Posted: 12 May 2021 04:24 PM PDT

In-game, Soviets require alot of micro and combined arms where you need to have units working together to be effective. For example conscripts are weak on their own but if paired up with other units they can be extremely useful. Their Su-76 is very weak, even in its specialized role as a tank destroy as it isn't effective in a 1v1 situation, is excellent at supporting tanks as being a long range extra DPS, and at supporting infantry with it's HE barrage. The T-34 isn't effective against tanks and needs help from other units like the su-76 with it tanking damage from the enemy tank and ram it if need be to allow the su-76 to kill it. The IS2, a beast of a tank still needs anti tank support as it's gun is not effective against some tanks. In real life the Soviets used overwhelming numbers and brute force to win.

The Germans in-game have alot of units that are very effective working by themselves without having being paired with any other unit. The grenadiers have an mg42 and an anti tank panzerfaust. The panzergrenadiers even with schreks can still pose a threat to some squads with their STG44's and bundle grenade while being good at killing tanks. The panzer 4 is pretty good against tanks in 1v1, being able to tank damage with it's armor skirt veterancy, and can be even better at killing infantry with the pintle mg42 upgrade. Hell, even the panther, which is extremely good at killing tanks, can be upgraded to have a pintle mg42. Their artillery pieces also have an option where you don't need to micro them at all which is counter battery. The ostwind, an anti aircraft unit has enough armor piercing to be effective against light vehicles and can kill tanks from the rear (though it probably won't work against non-afk players). The panzerwerfer is lightly armored with an mg42 lol. In real life though their doctrine was combined arms and were focused on working together to the point that they were the first to put radios inside tanks and stuck it to every vehicle even motorcycles.

What do you think truly wins games?

    Posted: 12 May 2021 04:04 AM PDT

I have around 2000 hours in Coh2 playing mostly 2v2 and 4v4, and sometimes the enemy manages to make a comeback even when it seems they lost the entire map / units.

Personally i believe causing manpower bleed to the enemy is one of the most important aspects, more so than aggressively capping the map for example. (Since the enemy can't build tanks due to constantly reinforcing/rebuilding infantry, or if he does build the tank he lacks infantry to support it.)

What do you guys think is the most important aspect of winning a coh2 game?

I want to learn ost but I hate grens. Are ostruppen any good or worth it as a core infantry? (3v3, 4v4)

    Brummbar Balance

    Posted: 12 May 2021 03:48 PM PDT

Does anyone else think the Brummbar needs to be rebalanced? In its current state, it has 1) insanely high damage, 2) high armor, and 3) high health. These units are nearly impossible to kill unless caught out of position, come with a bunker buster ability that further increases range at vet 1, and can even deal serious damage to tanks.

I think a nerf is in order to its performance. In my opinion, it should receive both a cost reduction and a reduction to its damage to compensate. Currently, the ability to solo double AT guns makes it such a problematic unit to play against.

And for the axis mains - yes, I play axis too. And it feels like cheating whenever you wipe an AT gun wall with this.

Edit: Currently rank ~50 USF 2v2

    [USF] Mortar vs Pack Howitzer

    Posted: 12 May 2021 03:22 PM PDT

i have trouble deciding which US forces' non-doctrinal artillery to use for 3vs3/4vs4 team games. i mostly play heavy cavalry and mechanized company. here are my personal thoughts on each one:

    - Mortar: trying to make it work from early to late game. it's cheap, no research required and smoke rounds are very helpful to cover assaults or point captures. however its rounds are kinda weak and have limited range

    - Pack Howitzer: high research costs. also more expensive to produce with higher pop count, but it's also stronger and with higher range. and once vetted it becomes quite good with stronger rounds

so which one would you guys prefer?

The dshka should always have the AP rounds visual effect to warn of its penetration

    Posted: 12 May 2021 01:01 AM PDT

Even in normal mode the DSHKA absolutely shreds light vehicles.

Also of course because PTRS/IAP mg42 tracers are fucking cool.

    Counter battery

    Posted: 12 May 2021 03:26 PM PDT

What if counter battery only worked in the cone of fire? (Actually thematically like airburst) but, what if the ability locked it in place so you'd have to predict where they'd fire from meaning to mobile arty would just need to try and move out of the cone of fire to avoid being hit.

[Poll / Discussion / Debate / Question] Should people be punished for leaving matches?

    Posted: 12 May 2021 11:23 AM PDT

Before you downvote and leave an agressive / passive-agressive comment, please keep in mind that leaving matches has proper reasons for why and why not.

I'll lay out my personal reasons for voting "Yes" and "No".

    I'll first go with "Yes":

When playing CoH2 matches, people often like to leave for the stupidest reasons. Maybe you took a good bit to load in because you don't have a high-end PC so they ALT-F4 out of it or end tast; maybe you made a unit that they didn't like or a starter building they didn't like, yet again - /L out of the game. Often times they also like to leave to perserve their shitty rank or just becasue they're so upset - Honestly, it's fucking annoying when teammates don't even try to get back into the game and just drop like morons or because their precious rank is going to drop by 1. This is just an appeal to frustration, the players that need to sit in the lobby for 6 hours to find a game just because the enemy team drops or your teammate(s) drop - Especially if you're an Axis player.

    Now with the "No":

Not punishing people that leave is also a very valid point - There are so many times where in a match you've tried surrendering but your stubborn and annoying teammate(s) have refused to do so just because they'd fight to the end for their 'pride' or whatever's left of it. Even if it's a 3/1 split on [Yes], they just don't have to vote and it'll work out in their favour ( Which is something Relic should honestly fix - I mean seriously it's such a dumb bug ). There are also times where your friends got booted out of the game for whatever reason, so instead of leaving them hanging for 40 minutes, you to decide to leave the game to team up with them again for another try. Maybe you yourself got booted out of the game and just bugsplatted, your internet maybe died etc. This generally would appeal to people that play in teams or that have to deal with uncooporative randoms ( Which to be completely honest make up at least 50% of the game, sorry guys )

    Conclusion:

I'm on the fence on what the conclusion should be - maybe a system of how many leaves you can do before being punished with a 5-10-20-30 minute game ban ( where you can still join therater of war / custom games ), ex after 3 leaves you're banned for 5 minutes, then 10/15 etc. and it resets every 3 days? I don't know, It's just something that I've just thought of. But please, I'd like you all to be civil and explain your reasoning in the comments below and even if you don't wish to, please do vote -- I'm honestly very curious about the community's view on this subject.

    Thank you! : )

( P.S. I really don't have a clue as to which flair to put - maybe there ought to be one for these types of things? And if there are problems with the post or issues you'd like to correct me on, please do! )

    Losing streak!!

    Posted: 12 May 2021 12:48 PM PDT

I'm honestly asking questions here, and by no means I intend to troll or vent.

I've been playing COH2 for 5 years (with many breaks) and played +700 matches almost all as Axis. My win rate used to be between 51% 1v1 and 53% multiplayer. But when I recently went back playing the game daily after few months break I noticed that Axis almost never win anymore and so weakened! I've only won 4 of the my last 22 matches, that's pathetic 18% win rate which is markedly lower than my 5 year average. Initially I thought it's bad luck being matched with inexperienced teams, but after investigating I noticed actually most of the losses I had prestige 2 or 3 teammates playing against less experienced opponents!!!

What's the deal? Did they nerf Axis way too much?

Bad performance after 64 bit update?

    Posted: 12 May 2021 09:55 AM PDT

    Hello!

So I recently started playing the game again after not having played it for at least a year and I now get absolutely terrible performance the longer a game goes on. I have the exact same system as before (which does need a new CPU but should be able to handle CoH2 and it did just fine before)
Does anyone have any ideas of what gives? Of what I can do? Looking at the task manager while playing the game nothing maxes out or comes even close, neither CPU, GPU or RAM.

What do you use to play COH2

    Posted: 12 May 2021 05:21 AM PDT

I've been thinking of picking the game up but I would be playing it on my laptop which isn't built for gaming to say the least 😅 Has anyone had any luck playing on their laptops or do most people play on a gaming PC? Thanks

    Racketenwerfer blob guide

    Posted: 12 May 2021 05:37 AM PDT

If you are OKW here is what you need to do :

    - Send infantry to spot allied tank

    - Retreat infantry

    - Send a blob of Racketenwerfers

    - Shoot allied tank

    - Retreat Racketenwerfers

    REPEAT

Racketenwerfer can't be pinned by MGs so allied players can't defend against a blob of them. And even if there is a lot of anti-infantry fire, they will have time to each shoot once (edit : before retreating) which is more than enough to obliterate any allied tank.

Just do that over and over and over again.

It also works with bunkers, base buildings, etc. and it's a really fantastic way to turn down allied players and make sure they won't play this game...ever again.
